Spam Scoring
Once a message has passed the initial
LISSonline Spam Firewall block/accept filters, it is then scored for its
spam probability. This score ranges from 0 (definitely not spam) to 9 or
even greater (definitely spam). Based on this score, the LISSonline Spam
Firewall can take one of four actions:
Allowed
Messages with a score below the tag threshold are sent to the intended
recipient(s).
Tagged

Messages scoring equal to or greater than the tag threshold, but below
the quarantine threshold are delivered to the sender. Tagged messages
contain a subject line of the message with the text "[LISSonline]
Spam:". The text provided is prepended to the subject line.
Using "Rules" in applications such as Microsoft Outlook to move messages
with "Spam:" in the subject to a Junk E-mail folder can reduce the
messages that are delivered to the Inbox, as well as prevent forwarding
to many mobile devices such as Blackberry's.
Quarantined (see Quarantine Inbox below)
Messages scoring equal to or greater than the quarantine
threshold, but below the block threshold are quarantined. Messages are
sent to a Per-User Quarantine Inbox.
Blocked
Messages scoring equal to or greater than the block threshold are not
delivered to the recipient.
Quarantine Inbox
An e-mail is sent to each user who has
items in their Quarantine Inbox daily at 3:35 pm by default. At the
bottom of this message is a link to that users Quarantine Inbox. Users
can Deliver,
Whitelist, or Delete messages, as
well as "Classify as Spam" or "Classify
as Not Spam". These classifications help to improve the accuracy
of the LISSonline Spam Firewall over time.
Messages are automatically deleted from
the Quarantine Inbox after 10 days.

Plug-Ins for
Outlook
Microsoft Outlook Plugin Version 1
(Windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP)
Download from
http://antispam.lissonline.com:8000
click the "Get Mail Client Plugins Here"
link
Once installed, the plugin will allow
classification of messages as spam or not-spam from the mail client. To
use the plugin simply select the message(s) to be classified in Outlook
and click on the red envelope ('X' mark) for spam, or the green envelope
('Check' mark) for not-spam.
Please keep in mind that marking
messages may not yield immediate results. Marking messages helps
the system learn to better identify spam and detection will become
better over time.
